We developed an innovative creative city plan for this charming, but often overlooked, city in the Miami mega-region that would leverage its authenticity and individuality by emphasizing its culture and arts for competitive advantage.
We have developed innovative programs for local governments, using our research and trend tracking abilities and our communications skills for provocative results. These include the first smart growth initiative in the region, culminating with a major summit hosted by Mayor A C Wharton and management of the transition program for the new administration of Shelby County. We created and led the process for Sustainable Shelby, the first sustainability plan of action for the Memphis region, and City of Choice, the new vision embraced by City of Memphis. This work includes white papers, branding, public relations, speech-writing, messaging, and media plans.
We work on the philanthropic agenda of Memphis’s leading foundation. We have supported its work on school reform, arts and cultural strategies, green strategies and positioning Memphis nationally. This work includes a broad range of communications strategies, including white papers on strategic issues and the launch in Memphis of Teach For America, The New Teacher Project and New Leaders for New Schools and making the case for changes in Tennessee charter schools legislation.
Working with economist Joe Cortright of Impresa Consulting of Portland, Oregon, we prepared a Young and Restless report for a Missouri city seeking to develop, retain, and attract talented young professionals.

Working with the Williams Company, we developed new strategic and organization plan for Memphis’s oldest leadership organization. In addition, we revamped the programming to address the “Four Dimensions of Successful Cities” and to identify and coordinate the nationally prominent speakers at each year’s community meeting.

With partners BPM of Pensacola and Stone Mantel of Colorado springs, we developed a city branding plan for the Pensacola/Escambia County region. Final recommendations resulted from focus groups, public meetings, interviews, and a Smart City Diagnostics assessment.
We have a long relationship that began with repositioning Friends of Shelby Farms Park into a group driving resolution of contentious road issues and creating grassroots support for a privately-managed 4,500-acre park. We wrote the first brochures for the park, first case study in support of a bolder vision, positions papers, op-ed columns, news releases, and communications plans.
